Confirmation and Chaos

چکیده
‡We gratefully acknowledge our indebtedness to Kevin Kelly and David Danks. We would also like to thank an anonymous reviewer for very detailed and helpful comments. have been concerned to show that certain procedural accounts of model confirmation are compromised by non-linear dynamics. We suggest that the issues raised are better approached by considering whether chaotic data analysis methods allow for reliable inference from data. We provide a framework and an example of this approach.

Confirmation of Persistent Chaos in High Dimensions
In this letter, we prove rigorously the persistence property of chaos in high dimensions stated as a conjecture in [1]. The idea of the proof is based on a simple remark on the form of the variation of bifurcation parameters. The relevance of this result is that persistent chaos in high dimensions was observed and tested numerically, but without any rigorous proof. Also, this proof shows that p...
متن کاملExperimental Observation of Lag Synchronization in Coupled Chaotic Systems
Chaotic lag synchronization is a subtle dynamical phenomenon in which the states of two mutually coupled, nonidentical chaotic oscillators follow each other with a fixed time delay. We investigate to what extent lag synchronization can be observed in laboratory experiments. Our measurements indicate that due to the influence of noise, lag synchronization appears to occur intermittently in time....
متن کاملKato's chaos and P-chaos of a coupled lattice system given by Garcia Guirao and Lampart which is related with Belusov-Zhabotinskii reaction
In this article, we further consider the above system. In particular, we give a sufficient condition under which the above system is Kato chaotic for $eta=0$ and a necessary condition for the above system to be Kato chaotic for $eta=0$. Moreover, it is deduced that for $eta=0$, if $Theta$ is P-chaotic then so is this system, where a continuous map $Theta$ from a compact metric space $Z$ to itse...
متن کاملTransversal homoclinic orbits in a transiently chaotic neural network.
We study the existence of snap-back repellers, hence the existence of transversal homoclinic orbits in a discrete-time neural network. Chaotic behaviors for the network system in the sense of Li and Yorke or Marotto can then be concluded. The result is established by analyzing the structures of the system and allocating suitable parameters in constructing the fixed points and their pre-images f...
متن کاملSensitive Dependence on Parameters of Continuous-time Nonlinear Dynamical Systems
The sensitive dependence of periodicity and chaos on parameters is investigated for three-dimensional nonlinear dynamical systems. Previous works have found that noninvertible low-dimensional maps present power-law exponents relating the uncertainty between periodicity and chaos to the precision on the system parameters. Furthermore, the values obtained for these exponents have been conjectured...
